This book discusses the conception _partible paternity_ within Amazonian Indian communities. The author argues that fellow anthropologists Beckerman and Valentine are completely wrong in labeling the Amazonian system as one of _group marriages_ in their book Cultures of Multiple Fathers; rather, he states individual marriage and family exist nearly everywhere.
